Foreign Registration
Registering a vessel in an offshore registry requires that the owner of the vessel be a citizen of that country. If the individual applicant does not qualify as a citizen, arrangements can be made for a corporation to be set up in that country to own the vessel. For those contemplating an offshore registry, they should consult with their tax advisor or attorney to discuss the benefits of Sales Tax, VAT, Luxury Tax and Crew Income Tax.
Most registries require proof of citizenship, a Tonnage Survey and if previously registered in a national registry, a Deletion Certificate . The registry process can take 2 - 3 weeks. The costs of the offshore registry vary widely due to the surveying process and the size of the boat. We would be happy to obtain a quote for anyone wishing to contact us in advance.
